Happy Memorial Day, I pray
that you honored a veteran today and thanked them for their service. A friend
called me and thanked me for my service, make me feel proud. Not much going on
here today. My day did start very early as I was up at 1:30 am to go and pick
up Dan and take him to the airport for his 5:00 am flight. I was back home by
3:30 am and went back to bed but had trouble getting back to sleep. Cheri
worked on painting the barn quilt that will go up in the peak of the house to
replace the old one. I did watch the rest of the NASCAR race and was happy with
the ending. We are heading into summer as the temp is to be at 90 degrees every
day this week plus high humidity, makes it hard to do any outside work. We a got
a call from Ron and Sandy this afternoon inviting us over late this afternoon
for burgers on the grill. We had a good visit and a lot of laughs.

Grandma went to church
with us today. I had e-mailed her to let her know that there was going to be a
guest speaker and there wouldn’t be any message notes. She missed church last
Sunday as we were out of town and said that she wanted to go. She did have notes
for Sunday school. Just as we were pulling into our park we got a call from Jan
Rogers telling us we forgot our Bibles in Sunday school. So one day this week
we will have to go back and get them. Later this afternoon Jan and Dan came
over as Dan wanted to see the flooring we put down. He has just bought a house
and is going to put in new flooring and want to see what it looked like being
laid on a diagonal and want to know where we got it. After checking it out he
thought that he would do the same thing. The rest of the afternoon was spent
watching the Indy 500. We also watched a couple of movies we had recorded and
then this evening watching the NASCAR race. I couldn’t stay awake to watch the
end so that will be on my list for tomorrow.

It was a busy morning. We
left at 9:15 am with our first stop at Publix’s to pick up the dinner rolls we
ordered yesterday. Then on to the church to help set things up for the lunch
after Mel’s Celebration of Life. There were so many people that came early to
help that in no time everything was ready and still had time to visit before the
service started. It was a wonderful celebration that Mel would have been proud
of. Mel’s daughter, son, and son in law all spoke and told some wonderful
stories about Mel. Then it was time for me to tell a few things about Mel. It
was very hard for me to get through what I wanted to say but with God’s help I
made it. There were two more of Mel’s friends that spoke before Pastor Randy
presented his message. After the service we all gathered to have lunch and more
visiting. There were so many to help with the cleanup that it didn’t take very
long. We were back home a little after 2:00 pm. Cheri and I decide we had done enough
for the day and was time to relax. We both ended up take a long nap.

Cheri was busy first thing
this morning doing laundry and ironing. She also started the crockpot with a
beef roast with all kinds of seasonings. She said that it was a new recipe. We
left at 10:00 am and headed for the airport to pick up Sherry (Jan’s daughter).
She is here for a week to be with Jan and for Mel’s Celebration of Life. We
dropped her off at the motel where she was meeting her daughter and grand
children who are driving in from Maryland. Last Oct when we got our flue hots
we also got the new pneumonia shot and was told that we needed a booster shot
in six months. So we went to Walgreen’s to see about getting the booster shot.
Well yes you are supposed to have the booster shot in six months but the
insurance says you have to wait a year to get it paid for. So I guess we will
wait until Oct to have it done. Cheri did get a whopping cough shot which we
have to have when we see our new grandson. I will get mine later at the VA. We
also check Larry and Denise’s house and a stop at Publix’s to order three dozen
rolls for the lunch tomorrow after Mel’s Celebration of Life. It was 3:00 pm
when we finally got home and hadn’t had any lunch so we had an early supper. Cheri
fixed philly cheese steak sandwiches along with corn on the cob and watermelon.
After we eat we went over to Lowe’s to get a sample of paint that Cheri thinks
she wants on the walls of the main bathroom. So when we got home she put some
on the walls and said that it was the color she wants.

Last week Jan had asked me
if I would speak at Mel’s celebration of Life this Saturday. I told her it
would be an honor to tell people how Mel had affected our lives. So this
morning I sat down at the computer. It is very hard for me to put my thoughts
into words. I have been praying for help and today was the day to get it written
down. I was surprised how easy the words came to me, thank you God for your
help. Around 11:00 am I went outside to work and decided I would clean out the
shed and put the power washer away. Well I closed the shed door and the door to
the shop and decided I wasn’t in the mood to do that today. Cheri did laundry
and finished the baby quilt she has been working on. It looks nice and I will
post a picture of it. This afternoon I did some computer searching on some
project that I would like to do some time in the future. Cheri and I spent the
rest of the afternoon resting and napping in our recliners. We left at 4:30 pm
to pick up Jan and go to the airport to pick up her son Dan who lives in
Wyoming. He is here for Mel’s Celebration of Life. His flight came in at 6:30
pm. On the way home we stopped at Bob Evan’s for supper. It was 9:00 pm when we
finally got home. We watched a little TV and called it a night.
