Kathryn and Bro picked us up at 9am and we headed into town for breakfast.  This was the last time to visit with them, as they headed for home after they dropped us back off at the 5th wheel.

We changed our clothes and headed out on the motorcycle.  We began by exploring the Cana Island Lighthouse.  We ran into a little rain on our way there but it did not last long.  We had a short hike to the lighthouse.  We toured the grounds and paid the additional price to climb the 97 steps to the top of the lighthouse.  What a view from up there.

Door County is surrounded by Lake Michigan to the North and East and the bay of Green Bay to the west, this long and slender peninsula has 300 miles of shoreline.

We headed for Bluff Headlands county Park, just west of Gills Rock.  We took Q over to Hwy 57 to Sister Bay, on up to Ellison Bay and into Gills Rock.  We were hoping to find an overlook of the Bay, but what we found was a challenging climb to the water’s edge.  We walked over tree roots and rocks on a steep incline to the shoreline.  It really gave my knee a work out.  The water’s edge was pretty, but all I kept thinking about was if my knee would hold out for the climb up out of there.

One gal said it was easier going up then coming down.  She was right.  Thank goodness!

We headed on out to the northern most point of the peninsula where the ferry leaves for Washington Island.  We found a cold cherry drink at a small shop there.  We also stopped at Bea’s Bakery for a cherry pastry.  Door County is famous for their cherries.  You can even find cherry cheese!

We arrived home about 3pm.  We only put on 60 miles today and hopefully if it doesn’t rain tomorrow, we’ll get the chance to explore again tomorrow.
