It was cold this morning, only 36 degrees. We got on the road by 8:30 am. The campground we were going to stay in would not take overnight campers; it didn’t look that nice anyway. So the next campground wasn’t open for the season. We found a Public Corps campground just above the Bull Shoals Lake Dam. We got in for half price by using our Golden Age Passport. It was 2:00 pm by the time we got set up. Then we went to visit Dave and Maryann Hassenbach. They live only 4 miles from where we are camped. After visiting for a while we all went out for pizza near their house and it was excellent. After supper Maryann had to go and teach a scrapbooking class, Cheri went along and made some Mother Day and Father Day cards. Dave and I went for a ride (cruse) in his 1940 Chevy, it was a blast.

Cheri did a load of laundry this morning while I went and fueled up the truck to a tune of $420.75. We got on the road at 10:15 am, not in any hurry has we have two short days to our next destination. We arrived in Jonesboro AR at Perkins RV Park around 3:30 pm. We have only about 150 miles to go tomorrow. We plan on being in Mountain Home AR to visit friends tomorrow.

It looked like rain when we got up; I checked the radar and could see it would soon be on us. We quickly closed up the 5th wheel before it started to rain. We were on the road by 9:00 am. We stopped in Mobile, Alabama to see and tour the USS Alabama battle ship. It is the largest ship I have ever been on. The big guns are 16 inchers and could shoot 21 miles. It took us three hours to do the tour. We drove in rain most of the day and some so hard we could hardly see the road. Cheri found a campground for us to stop at; the book said it was just off the highway. It turned out to be 6 miles and when we got there it didn’t look very good so we turned around and left. It looked like red neck country. We are spending the night in Canton, Mississippi, 20 miles north of Jackson. We had to set up in the rain, not fun. I have uploaded some pictures of the USS Alabama.

We headed out early this morning and went to the Naval Air Museum. We spent two hours on a guided tour inside the museum. Then we got on a bus for a tour of more planes on the flight line (30 minutes). Then we took time for soup and sandwich at the Cubi Bar Café inside the museum. We spent two more hours looking at more planes and other exhibits. I tried to take some pictures, but the planes are so close to each other that it was to hard to get good pictures. If you ever get to Pensacola make this a must visit. Their web site is http://www.navalaviationmuseum.org/ When we left the museum we headed to Alabama to see Clayton and Joyce Resop. It has been about 10 years since we last seen them. It was dark by the time we got back to the 5th wheel.

Here is a picture of my beach bum!!

It was foggy here this morning but soon cleared to be a very nice day. We left the 5th wheel around 9:00 am and headed for Pensacola beach. It is a very long and nice beach. We walked up and down for a couple hours. There were only a few people on the beach. We stopped and talked to some people that were fishing. Got to talking about a good place to go for fresh sea food, they told us about Marina Oyster Barn, said it was the best around. They said they couldn’t tell how to get to it as it is hard to find. When we got to the truck Cheri said check the GPS and see if was listed. Sure enough it was there and gave us directions to the place. We would have never found it without the GPS. Will as it turned out we didn’t think it was very good. When we got back to the campground the plumbers where working on sewer. When I tried to hook up to the sewer last night it was backed up. Will they tried to unplug it from our site and all the crap and water came out under our 5th wheel. They should have had us move to a different site. It turned out to be plugged by the lift station. If they would have done that first we wouldn’t have the mess we now have. We will have to get bleach and water to scrub everything before we can close up. Talked to the manager and he gave us a two night refund.

Today was the first day of our trip to Alaska. We have a long way to go before we get there, but hope to see a lot of things on the way. We were packed and hooked up and ready to leave at 10:00 am. Grandma came over while we were hooking up to tell us goodbye. We drove about 450 miles today and arrived at Leisure Lake Camp Ground. It is located just off of I-10 and 6 miles west of Pensacola, FL. We are only a couple of miles from Alabama.

We took our last walk around the park this morning. Before lunch I started cleaning out the basement and shed. At 11:30 Grandma, Dean & Betty, Cheri and I went to Golden Coral for one last meal before we hit the road in the morning. It is the best Golden Coral we have ever eaten at. Cheri and I got done with all our packing and putting things away for our trip at about 4:00 pm. Cheri throw her back out of place and is having a hard time getting around. Grandma, Cheri and I went to see Grandpa for the last time before we leave. He seems to be doing better. He even got up out of bed by himself to give us a hug. We didn’t do our evening walk as Cheri’s back was hurting to much. We didn’t get the motorcycle sold, will try again this fall.

When we walked this morning we could see more people have left and the ones that we talked to are leaving this weekend. Cheri and Grandma went to Wal-Mart for groceries. I aired up the truck and 5th wheel tires and put the air censers back on the 5th wheel tires. We both spend most of the day doing odd jobs to get ready to leave. This afternoon Grandma, Cheri and I went to see Grandpa. He was in therapy when we got there, watched him do some walking with the walker. When he was done he stayed up while we visited. All the other times we have been there to visit he has been in bed. This evening Grandma, Cheri and I went over to Dean and Betty’s to play dominos. We played two games and Cheri won both.

We had a busy day. Last Friday I put the motorcycle in storage and forgot to take the battery out, so I did that this morning. Cheri was busy putting away things that we don’t use while we are traveling. I put away the satellite dish and now use the one on the 5th wheel. We use the stationary one while here in Florida; it is larger and doesn’t have the drop out during storms. This afternoon we hooked up Grandma’s life line and tested it out. Then Cheri and I went to all of Grandma’s doctors and gave them a paper on how to call her while we are gone. They have to call 711 and then get a relay operator that can relay what they say to Grandma’s phone. It was after 8:00 pm before we got back from our evening walk. Grandma said Grandpa was alert and eat well today.

This morning Cheri continued her spring cleaning and I went to work on washing the 5th wheel and truck for the last time before we leave. I didn’t get done until 1:00 pm. After lunch we went with Grandma to see Grandpa. He said he didn’t feel very good this morning, but was better this afternoon. When we got back to Grandma’s I installed the strobe light for her telephone and the emergency dialer. Tomorrow we will give it a test to make sure it calls all the numbers for help if she needs it. We did our evening walk after it cooled down.

Cheri went and got her hair cut this morning. We had company today, Larry and Emmy Becker from Ocala, FL. They are from Wisconsin and have built a new home in Ocala. They went with us to the last Park Potluck. We figured we would have between 40 and 50 people, turned out that we had 80 people come, Lots of good food. When we got back to our place the four of us played dominos, Larry and Emmy had never played before. I hate to say it but the girls won again!! It was a lot of fun to see Larry and Emmy as it has been a year since out last visit.

We made a trip to Dade City to see about signing Cheri up for Social Security. Found out it can’t be done until three months before her birthday, so we will have to wait a few days. Then it was to Wal-Mart to get Groceries and fill the truck up with diesel. We were able to save 15 cents a gallon by doing it there, it cost us $495.00 to fill up, and glad we don’t have to do that very often. This afternoon we stopped by Dean and Betty’s for a visit. Then over to Ken and Eileen’s to visit and say our goodbyes has they are leaving for Wisconsin early tomorrow morning. We didn’t get over to see Grandpa, but Grandma said he did walk with the walker, if he continues to improve; he may be able to come home. We still have to take it one day at a time.

No wind today and in the upper seventies, my kind of day. Cheri did laundry and started to put things away for the trip. I worked on the motorcycle getting it cleaned up so I can put a coat of wax on it. I put it up for sale today; Darren put it out on Craigslist.org. If I sell it before next Thursday that would be good, other wise it is going into storage for the summer. This afternoon we went with Roger to do some Geo-caching in Dade City. We found seven caches and there was one we couldn’t find. I need to go back and look for it. It bugs me when I can’t find one. Cheri and I went out for supper and then over to see Grandpa. I think he is slowly progressing.

It was another cold morning and windy, but turned out to be a beautiful day with a high in the low seventies. I was cold all morning and had a hard time getting warmed up. I even had Cheri fix me a bowl of soup for lunch. Cheri was a busy little beaver today; she continued to do her spring cleaning and even took time to give me a haircut. I on the other hand didn’t get much done. I did clean the fresh water tank and took down a surround sound speaker to look up into the ceiling to see about drilling a hole through the roof to run the cable for the cell phone repeater. A few days ago I ordered an antenna mount and I am waiting for that to come before I run the cable for the repeater. I also took a motorcycle ride over to Lowe’s to look around. This evening we went over to Grandma’s to play dominos with Ken, Eileen and Roger. The girls won again.

We didn’t do our morning walk as it was cold and windy; I think it was really because we were lazy. Cheri continued with her spring cleaning. I went over to Grandpa and Grandma’s and the park guy was mowing their lawn, so I moved the golf cart and van so he could do all of it. Then I did the trimming and sprayed the lawn and under the trailer for bugs and ants. When I got home Cheri was defrosting the freezer. We had some lunch and then I changed the water filter. This afternoon we went to see the movie Leatherheards. It was an ok movie, but nothing special. After the movie we went to see Grandpa. He did better today with his therapy; he walked about 70 feet with the walker and with very little help.

It was cold enough to ware a jacket while walking this morning, it was 42 degrees. We had a high of 68 degrees and very windy this afternoon. I had to put in the awning this evening because of the wind. Cheri worked some more on the information for the Alaska trip. She also made biscuits for straw berry short cake. I got all the painting done on the trailer hitch parts that should have been done last fall. I don’t like to paint so I kept putting it off. It got to that point were I had to getter done! There is no change in Grandpa; he is still having a hard time with the therapy. This evening Grandma, Cheri and I went down to Ken and Eileen’s to play dominos, the girls won. Eileen made a lemon pie that was very good.

Cheri and I went out to Golden Coral for breakfast with Ken, Eileen and Roger. After Breakfast Ken, Roger, Cheri and I went to the Big Top Flea market. Roger had never been to a flea market. He had a lot of fun and bought several things. When we got home Cheri and I went to see Grandpa. He is doing well and the nurse said he was being moved back to the nursing home this afternoon. That was good news. It was cool today with a high of 67 degrees. After the 90 degree weather it seemed cold out and we did get a little rain and was cloudy most of the day. We got a call from Pat and Roger telling us about their trip home to Maine and that they still have snow and ice on the lake.

It was 91 degrees today and very humid so we didn’t spend much time outside. First thing this morning we picked up Grandma and went to the hospital to see how Grandpa was doing. He was alert and had eaten a good breakfast. We talked to the nurse and she said he didn’t have a heart attack. They think the chest pain was from the high blood pressure which is still too high. Cheri and I went over to the nursing home to pick of a few things that he needed. This afternoon we took Ken and Eileen to the airport to pick up their son Roger. He is going to drive them back to Wisconsin next week. His plane was an hour late coming in from Minneapolis due to snow and ice. It was 8:30 pm when we got home.

It was another very warm day with a high of 87 degrees. It was already hot when we walked this morning. Cheri did three loads of laundry and I worked the lay out for the cell phone repeater. Cheri and I decided to go see the movie 21 this afternoon. It was a very good and entertaining movie. After the movie we went to see Grandpa. When we got to the nursing home I turned on my cell phone, I had forgot to do it when we got out of the movie. Well I had a voice mail saying Grandpa had been taken to the hospital for chest pains. We got to the hospital shortly after he arrived. His blood pressure was 160/110. His blood work showed an enzyme that was positive and they are keeping him over night. It was 8:30 pm before we got home.

Cheri took Grandma for her doctor’s appointment at 10:30 am and then dropped of prescriptions at Wal-Mart. I worked on getting the second coat of roof coating on the slide outs of the 5th wheel. This afternoon we went over to Dean & Betty’s to help them trade recliners with Donna. We used Grandpa and Grandma’s van to do the hauling. The rest of the afternoon was spent doing odd jobs, getting things ready to leave. Cheri fixed barbeque spare ribs in the crock pot and corn bread for supper. It was very good and smelled good all day while it was cooking. We didn’t do our evening walk as it was to hot.

It was another nice day and no rain so I went to work and got one coat of sealer on the side out roofs of the 5th wheel. It took me until noon to get done. I need to put on one more coat and hope to do it tomorrow. This afternoon we took Grandma and went to Wal-Mart to get groceries. Then we went to see Grandpa. He looked good and was talking more. He did some walking in therapy, he said they really worked him over but now feels good. Cheri made me spinach soap with smoked sausage in it. It was great. On our evening walk we stopped and had a visit with Ed & Lorraine LeBlanc, they are from Maine, not to far from where Cheri grew up.

Cheri spent the day putting together all the information we have on Alaska into a three ring binder with tabs so we can find different things to see on our trip. I mowed lawn, put 5th wheel hitch on the truck and washed the roof of the slide outs on the trailer getting them ready to put on a protective coating. I hope to get that done tomorrow if the weather cooperates. It was a beautiful day, partly cloudy, not much humidly and in the low 80’s. We had our work done by 2:00 pm and decided to take a motorcycle ride. I called Bud and Joyce to see if they want to go for a ride. They said they were ready to go, so the four of us rode down to Pant City for strawberry shortcake. Bud and Joyce lead us back on some roads we had never been on, it was a nice time. On our evening walk we stopped to see Grandma and said Grandpa had a very good day, did a lot of talking and was in good sprits.

It was a crazy morning. While we were on our morning walk at 8:45 am Cheri gets a call from the nursing home wanting to know if we are going to take Grandpa for his 10:30 am doctor appointment. We knew nothing about it and still had to shower and get dressed. Well we did get to the nursing home by 10:00 am. It was a follow up with a back doctor from when he was in the hospital and the nursing home made the appointment and didn’t tell us about it. It turns out that they made the appointment with the wrong doctor. Grandpa was having a very bad day and wasn’t going anywhere as his blood pressure was to low to move him. It was lunch time when we got home. I worked on getting the truck waxed, another big job done. Cheri did paper work. No rain today, party cloudy and a high of 82 degrees. We ordered a unit with a panic button for Grandma. If she should fall and need help all she has to do is push the button that would be around her neck and it will call people and let them know she needs help. Also ordered a strobe light so she can see when the phone is ringing. She can make and receive calls through a special operator. While we were on our evening walk we stopped to see Ken and Eileen and gave them the pictures I took when we went out to eat for their anniversary.

This morning was the last Sunday for church here in the park. The next service will be this fall on Nov 16. We did have 84 in church. We got home just before it started to rain. In between the rain storms I did get the truck washed, with the hard rain that came after I got done, it got a good rinse jog. This afternoon Cheri and I played a couple of games of cribbage which I won. I watched the NASCAR Race and Cheri sorted through her old magazines. It was still raining when we went to bed at 11:00 pm.

Once again it was hot and humid with rain this afternoon and evening. I am getting tired of the rain. We went out to eat with all the cousins today to celebrate Ken and Eileen’s 66th wedding anniversary. After lunch Grandma, Cheri and I went to see Grandpa, he seemed about the same. He is having a lot of trouble with his short term memory. When we got back we were invited down to Ken and Eileen’s to play some games. Then we took Grandma to Wal-Mart to pick up medicine. It was to hot and rainy to walk this evening.

Today was a repeat of yesterday, hot, humid and rain in the evening. When we walked we could see several more people have left to go north. I ordered a cell phone repeater today. It has an external antenna that goes on top of the 5th wheel and then a cable that comes inside to the repeater and then out of the repeater to an antenna inside the 5th wheel. It is supposed to extend the range of the cell phone up to 20 miles. I will let you know how it works when I get installed. Cheri made muffins and a cherry pie this afternoon. I went down and visited with Bud Avery. He wants to get some motorcycle goggles like the ones I have. I had him try on mine to see if they would fit him and told him where he could buy them. Dean and Betty came over to play dominos this evening. Dean and I won the first game by a narrow margin. I think Cheri and Betty got mad because they stomped us the next game.

By 8:00 am it was already 70 degrees and headed for a high of 90 degrees and very humid. We didn’t want to be outside working in this (so we didn’t). Cheri did a couple of loads of laundry and we finish getting our taxes ready to send out along with paper work for Grandpa and Grandma. Later this afternoon Grandma and we went to see Grandpa. He had a good day. When we got home Cheri and I helped our neighbor (Bonnie) get her van pack up and ready to leave in the morning. After they are gone I will close up their trailer for the summer. Around 6:00 pm another rain storm went through, lasted about 2 hours.

We were slow getting around this morning. By the time we got our walk done, showered and dressed it was 10:30 am, it seem nice to lounge around. Cheri worked on more paper work and I worked on installing the new water hose to the 5th wheel. It turned out to be a major job, the sun was so hot I ended up soak and wet with sweat and had to change clothes when I got done. We made a trip to the post office to pick up our taxes. Then to the doctor’s office to pick up a prescription for Grandma and it wasn’t ready. Then to Lowe’s to get paint brush and roller so I can recoat the slide out roofs on the 5th wheel. We stopped at Wal-Mart to pickup medicine for Grandma and it wasn’t ready. Stopped at K-Mart and bought a couple of new lawn chairs. We had another rain storm go through this evening, not as bad as last night. Grandpa didn’t have a very good day.

Cheri and I went sky diving today. APRIL FLOOLS!!!!! No it didn’t happen. Cheri spent the day helping Grandma with paper work, medications, and trips to doctor’s offices and groceries. I on the other hand had some fun. I needed to make a trip to Camping World to make a return. So I took the motorcycle and stopped to see if Bud Avery wanted to go and he said he was about to go for a ride. So after we were done at Camping World we rode over to Plant City for strawberry short cake. We got home about 2:30 pm and had a very nice ride. Then Grandma, Cheri and I went to see Grandpa. He had another day that wasn’t very good. He wasn’t able to stand and doing any walking. It started raining around 7:00 pm and it was so hard that we couldn’t hear the TV, but was over by 10:00 pm.

Cheri and I didn’t get up very early this morning, seem nice to sleep in. Cheri did laundry and cleaned plus paid bills and paper work. I spent the day outside working on 5th wheel, greasing springs and wheels, caulking, chained and locked the spare tire, repaired the front basement door. I also did a couple of odd jobs at Grandpa and Grandmas. We started our evening walk at 5:00 pm and didn’t get home until 8:00 pm. We made several stops along the way talking. A lot of people wanted to know how Grandpa was doing. He did better today.
