Today was a free day for us as we have most of our work done that needs to be done before the caravan people start coming in. We did our morning walk in 49 degree weather, no wind so was very nice. After breakfast and showers we headed out to explore some of the places in the area so we can be of help to the caravan people and tell them places to see before we head out on the caravan. We went up to Hazelton again to take pictures and we stopped at the Boat for a lunch of soup and ice cream afterwards. We took a tour of the museum which was very interesting. Back in 1918 the town of Hazelton put up a prize of $1000 dollars to the first person to drive a car into town. There were over 20 cars that started out from Seattle Washington. Some of them make it as far as Burns Lake. The problem was that from Burns Lake to Hazelton there weren’t any roads (180 miles). The guy that did make it had two mechanics and several other people making a road for him to drive on. They tried following the horse packing trails but they had to be widened for the car. Long story short the guy finally made it in a Studebaker. After checking out the rest of Hazelton we drove down by the Hagwilget suspension bridge (big scary bridge) to take pictures of it and Hagwilget canyon. The Kisplox river flows down the valley until it come together with the Sheena River. At the point where the two rivers come together is where our campground is located. The mountain that is close to the campground is called Stekyawden, I can’t stop taking pictures of it as the clouds move through you can always have a different picture, it is so beautiful and pictures don’t show all of its beauty.
