Gay Sept-10-17

(The blog covers a few
days)
We are hunkered down and
have been watching the storm on TV. As the day progressed so did the rain and
wind. At 11:00 pm the eye of the storm was about 50 miles straight south of us
and was moving straight north. Which means it would come right over us. That is
when we lost power. The wind gust were very strong and then at 2:00 am
everything quieted down and as of this morning we have only a few wind gust. We
are surrounded by water and won’t be able to get out for a while. I did get the
car out of the garage and thought that I could drive through the water but
turned out to be too deep. I only got a couple blocks from the house. So we sat
around reading, talking, eating, and napping. I did try to get Ron’s generator
started to cool down the refrigerator but couldn’t get it started. Ron and
Sandy had a hard time getting back from South Carolina, no gas stations open
and ran out of gas about 50 miles from home. Their son in law brought gas to
them so they could get back. Ron and another fiend Craig came with a high
Toyota 4 runner and got us out and home about 7:30 pm last night (Monday). Good
to be home and went right to bed as it was dark and couldn’t do anything. This
morning (Tuesday) I went out at 7:00 am and got our generator out and by 8:00
am we had power in the house. The only thing we are lacking is running water.
Don’t have any idea when we will get power and running water. When we came
through town last night everything on the east side of town was without power. Update we got running water now. This
afternoon I took the generator over to Jean’s for a couple of hours for her
refrigerator. The park manager was in contact with Duke Energy and found out
that it will be weeks and maybe months before we get power. Time figure out
what our next move is. With no power also means no internet service.
Wednesday Sept 13th. The generator
ran until about 3:00 am and then run out of gas. Our generator is only good for
120 service so we don’t have any air conditioning, hot water, dryer for
clothes, and stove to cook on. We used Jean’s car this morning to go over to
Grandma’s to clean out her refrigerator and to see what damage the storm did.
Well when we got there we couldn’t see any damage and when we went inside it
was nice and cool. The power was on and everything in the refrigerator was all
good. Then we went looking for gas for the generator and finally found some at
Wal-Mart, had to wait in a long line but was happy to get it. When we got home
we got Grandma ready to go home as we still don’t have any power and is very
hot in the house for her. She was glad to get back home. Then we went to
Wal-Mart to get her some groceries and all of their coolers and frozen areas
were empty, hadn’t done any restocking from the power being off. We did get
some good news today and was told we should have power back by midnight Friday.
Cheri and I removed some brush and tree limbs that fell in the yard. After that
I was done for the day. I am still weak and running a low grade fever although
today one time it was up to 99.8. Ron called later this afternoon and told us
the water was down and they were bring our car home. Jean came over late this
afternoon and then eat supper with us and watched TV until 8:00 pm.
Thursday Sept-14-17
I was up at 4:15 am this
morning and filled the generator with gas before it ran out. I am still running
the low grade fever but think this was a better day as I felt like I had more strength,
probably because I didn’t do anything. At noon it was 90 degrees in the house
and had to go out for a ride to cool down and get gas for the generator. Jean
came over for a visit and stayed to watch TV with us. At 4:00 pm our power came
back on. So I quickly got the generator unhooked and the power turned on to
start cooling down the house. We take so many things in our lives for granted
and is good to get back to basics to show us that God is the one that is in
control. After supper Jean came back over to watch a movie with us. At 8:30 pm
I headed for the shower to get cleaned up, the hot shower is much better than
the cold shower I had this morning. We crawled into bed and watched a little
more TV before calling it a night. We also now have internet service again so I
can get the blog posted again.
