Gay Sept-14-10

It was another nice day with less humidity, although it still got up to 88 degrees and a nice breeze this afternoon. Before I showered this morning I decided to tackle the lawn as it needed to be mowed. So by 9:30 am I had that project done. After I got done with the shower and dressed in some dry clothes I moved on to the project of hooking up the TV and DVR to the surround system. Cheri left to take Grandma to the doctor for her blood test as she has a doctor’s appointment Thursday. When they got back Cheri cleaned the trailer for Grandma. Being alone was a good thing because I needed the quiet time to think things through. When we got the HD DVR the guy from Direct TV hooked up the DVR to TV. I remember him asking if I had a HDMI cable. I remember saying no; don’t even know what it is. He used some other cables I had and got it working. That was a year and half ago. I got the manuals out and did some studying last night; it said I needed a HDMI cable to have the best picture. I got that a Wal-Mart, nice only need one cable instead of four cables. Then the manual said I needed a Digital Audio Optical cable (A what). So I also got the Digital Audio Cable at Wal-Mart. Funny it looks just like the cables I already have. Yep I forgot the Optical part, had to make a trip to Radio Shack to get it. OK now with the manuals and pictures laid out in from of me, I am ready to start. I got the HDMI cable in and check the TV and it works. So then I removed the old cables after marking them in case I had to put them back in. Yep I checked the TV and no picture. After more checking I discovered I needed to push the HDMI button on the TV remote, now the TV works and I do believe it is a clearer picture. OK a pat on the back and a smile on my face I am ready to attack the Surround system. This was a piece of cake. Plug the Digital Audio Optical cable in the back of the DVR and the Surround system. I couldn’t go wrong here as there was only one place it would fit. After much to do with the remote for the receiver I got the TV audio to come out the Surround system speakers, but doesn’t sound very good. Back to the receiver manual to do some reading. The part on how to use the remote is around twenty pages long. After reading three pages, I already forgot what I read on page one. I think I will go out and grab a 10 or 12 year old kid off the street and they will have everything working in about 30 seconds. Darn it the kids are in school. Ok back to page one and try each step on the remote. After a couple of hours the sound is now the way it should be. I hate it when something the size of a crackerjack box is smarter than I am. When Cheri came home she said how are things going. I just gave her that look (yep you know the one). Now I am exhausted and need to rest my fried brain. This evening was our first Life Group meeting. It is a group of about twenty people from church getting together to explore God and the things he can do for us. We are using the book Who You Are When No One’s Looking by Bill Hybels. Cheri and I were a little nervous about meeting new people. It was all unfounded as we were greeted with open arms and had a great time. We are already looking forward to next Tuesday night meeting.
