Max picked us up for church at 8:30am. We went to the Methodist Church in Lewellen. It is a beautiful little, old church with many stained glassed windows. When church was out we came back to the Oregon Trail Campground restaurant for coffee. We got to talking about ranches and found out there was a big horse ranch just below Max’s place and we hoped to catch a glance of the big herds of horses. Luck wasn’t with us. 5 or 6 in a group are all we saw. Max gave us a tour of Lake McConaughy and we saw how low the water was due to the release of a few different dams. It sure has hurt the fishing around here.
We also got Max to take us to Ogallala to visit their famed Front Street. It used to be the headquarters for Texas drovers, tinhorn gamblers and pretty gals. They have a western museum, crystal palace saloon and more. They don’t open until Memorial Day for the season. The door was open and we walked in. They were practicing for their nightly saloon gal show. The owner put the lights on in the museum so we could browse through. It was a neat little place. We headed for Otter Creek Restaurant for a bit to eat.
We stopped back by Max’s to let the dog out and visited for a bit before Max brought us back to the 5th wheel.
Around 5pm Gay went out to wash the 5th wheel. This would be our last chance to get that done for a while.
