We met Gay’s uncle Max for coffee up at the Oregon Trail restaurant. We packed up before we went up and all we had to do is hook up and we could be on our way. Max was waiting for us along with a few of his friends. We drank coffee and visited until about 9:30am. We said our good byes and headed out on US RT 26.

Our first stop was Chimney Rock south of Bayard, Ne. This is a rock formation that juts up out of the ground. It looks like a big chimney. The pioneers used this as a landmark for crossing the prairie. It was a unique site, took a number of pictures.

At Scottsbluff we found ourselves at Wal-Mart. We needed to stock up on some groceries. We took time for a quick sandwich before moving on.

We stopped to tour Fort Laramie in Fort Laramie, WY. We got an I-pod with earphones which gave us a personal tour of the fort. This outpost in the Wyoming wilderness played a crucial roll in the transformation of the west. The furnishings in all the buildings really told the story of how things were back in the 1800’s.

It took us about 1 ½ hrs to tour the fort. It was all very interesting.

We were lucky to find a campground right down the road from the fort. We were settled in for the night by 5:30pm.

ONLY 153 MILES TODAY!

Gay has uploaded pictures of Fort Laramie.
