We were slow getting started today as everyone is tired. Nikki and I took a load of stuff to the dump and then to Menards for a couple of electrical things I needed and to look for curtain rods. Nikki wants to hang the curtains inside the window frames so that the pretty trim decorations will show. We found some adjustable closet rods that we think will work but only bought a couple to see. When we got home and checked that they will work Nikki went back and bought the rest of what we needed. Cheri spent the day working on covering the dining room chairs. Nikki finished the painting and then sanded and stained the chairs. I did some touch up plaster for some nail holes that got missed. Then I worked on getting the new ceiling fan installed. I still need to get it balanced as it has a wobble on the high speed. I run out of time working on it as we had get ready to go out for dinner a 5:00 pm with Bruce and Jeannie from Friesland. Bruce was the contractor that built our house and have been friends since then. When we got back to Nikki’s she was still working on the chairs and continued until it got dark. Cheri and I settled in to watch the Wisconsin Badger football game which they won 49 to nothing over South Florida. I stayed up until the end of the game but Cheri and Nikki went to bed before it was over. I will post finished pictures of the work we have done tomorrow. Thank you God for the help and blessings today.

It was another busy day here at Nikki’s. I started at 7:00 am getting the saw out and ready to finish the trim and base board. Peter came around 8:00 am to help again today. He finished the trim and base board while I did some caulking. When he got that done he took over the caulking and I started on the electrical putting in the outlets. Peter also repaired a piece of carpet where a built in use to be, repaired the garage door, and scraped a heat vent and painted it. Cheri and Nikki were painting all day on the trim and base board. We did take a break and went downtown for lunch with Peter’s daughter. It was nice to see her as it has been many years since we have seen her. We quit work around 5:30 pm. Still have some electrical work to do and additional touch up painting. There is going to be a lot of cleaning that needs to be done. I tried to watch the Green Bay Packers game but ended up going to bed shortly after the second half. Thank you God for a blessed day and all of Peter’s help. Because of the hurricane that is coming to Florida before we get home Cheri spent a lot of time on the phone getting a place for Grandma to stay during the storm. A couple from our Sunday school class is going to pick her up and take her to their place during the storm.

I started at 7:00 am this morning getting saw out and setup to do the window trim and the rest of the base board in the living room. Peter would be here around 8:30 am and want to have thing ready. I got the base board for the living room out so Cheri could get it painted before putting down as trying to paint it on the carpeting wouldn’t work very well. With peter’s help we got all the windows and door trimmed done except one door and parts of two windows  as we ran out of trim and was also short three feet of base board. We also got all the crown molding back up and looks nice with the corner decorations. I think it was around 4:30 pm when Peter left. I have a lot of caulking to do and was going to do it this evening but by 6:00 pm I was too tired to continue. Nikki had a mission trip meeting this evening so after Cheri and I showered we went to Calver’s for supper and then to Menard’s to pick up the base board and window trim we need. It was 8:30 pm when we got home. It was a long day but got a lot done. Thank you God for helping us through the day.

The window moldings are done, still needs to be painted

If you look close you can see the crown molding.

I started working on the dining room at 7:30 am. I put the cap on the wainscoting, installed the new base board, and installed a shoe molding. Plus I got all the nail hole plugged and the caulking done. It is now ready for Cheri to paint. It was 6:30 pm when I finished for the day. Cheri was busy helping me and worked on covering the dining room chairs. Nikki had an evening out with church friends. Cheri fixed us leftover for our supper. After supper we made a trip to Menard’s as I needed some additional things for the house. By the time we got home from Menards it was already late and we both napped while trying to watch TV. Thank you God for guiding us through another day.

We had rain this morning when I got up and lasted all day and was still raining when we went to bed. It was a nice gentle rain. I had planned on setting the saw up outside for installing the wainscoting but with the rain that didn’t happen. I was able to fix a small space in the garage to do my cutting. I worked all day installing the wainscoting and didn’t get done until after 5:00 pm. Still have to fill the nail holes and put on the top cap. Nikki didn’t have to go to work until 10:00 am so her and Cheri worked on getting the dining room chairs ready to be recovered. When Nikki got home she fixed us chicken, baked beans, and potato salad for supper. TV was pretty much nonexistent for as I napped until it was time to go to bed. Thank you God for a blessed and productive day.

We went to church with Nikki this morning. Pastor Adam’s message was from Proverbs 31:10-31. On the way home we stopped at Aldi’s to get some groceries, wish we had one in Zephyrhills. Cece stopped over to pack up her belongings and take them. Cheri had a long talk with her letting her know that Nikki is still there for her and needs to treat her better. This afternoon we took a ride over to Brandon to see the first house we bought. The people that bought it have done a lot of work to it and looks very nice. Other than that not much change to the town except for more new homes. From there we went to Randolph to the nursing home to visit Bill and Barb. Cheri and Barb use to work together and have stayed friend through the years. It was good to see them and sorry that they have to be in a nursing home. Kind of gives me a picture of where we will be some day. From there we went to Friesland to see the house we built and lived in before we retired. The house looks the same but the big change was how big the trees are that we planted. We stopped to see some other friends but they weren’t home. On the way back to Nikki’s we stopped to get a Papa Murphy’s pizza for supper. We watched a couple of movies and called it a night. Thank you God for time spent with you and old friends.

Nikki had to work at church this morning and thought she would be home by noon or 1:00 pm, but turned out to be 3:30 pm when she got home. Cheri continued with the painting and now has all the painting done that she can do. There will be window trim, wainscoting, and base board to be painted but can’t do that until I get it installed. I worked on painting the kitchen electrical outlets and faceplates white. I thought that I would try it as it would cost a lot of money to replace the four ground fault outlets. So I finished that and think it will work ok. This afternoon I worked on getting wainscoting cut and ready for install. Then I worked on install some of the new electrical outlets and switches in the living room. I also got the TV mounted on the wall along with the floating shelf. It was 7:00 pm when I finally got done for the day. Cheri and Nikki went to Oshkosh after she got home from church. They didn’t get home until 8:00 pm. I was just starting make myself a sandwich when they came. So Nikki fixed us sloppy Joes for a late supper. Needless to say it was a short evening of TV. Thank you God for all the help today.

It was 57 degrees here this morning, nice working in the house with the windows open. Before Nikki went to work she made a trip to Menards to get another gallon of paint. Cheri got the second finish coat of paint done in the dining room along with finishing the trim paint. Now it is ready for me to install the wainscoting which I hope to start on tomorrow. Cheri also got the first finish coat of paint on in the living room. I got the grout done on the kitchen back splash this morning. This afternoon I worked on the bathroom drain as it was draining very slowly. I took the drain apart but didn’t find that much hair and was more buildup of soap scum. So I made a trip to Menards to get some drain cleaner. I got some extra strength that is a gel and you pour it in and let it sit for 10 minutes and then pour boiling hot water down the drain. I did this twice and it is now draining well. I went to reinstall the kitchen outlets and because of the tile the mounting screws were too short. So after I showered I made another trip to Menards for screws. When I got home Cheri had her shower done and Nikki was fixing pulled pork sandwiches for supper. We watched a couple of shows and called it a night. Thank you God for a bless day.

Nikki didn’t have to leave for work until 10:00 am so her and Cheri put on a coat of finish paint in the dining room and helped Cheri get started with the primer coat in the living room. I worked on the kitchen back splash and by 4:30 pm I had all the tile installed. Cheri wanted to put on a second coat of paint in the dining room but run out of energy late this afternoon. It was around 5:30 pm when Nikki got home. She went right to work fixing us Swedish meatballs and gravy over noodles with toast for supper. We settled in to watch the Green Bay Packers play with a bowl of ice cream. By half time we were all tired and decided to call it a night. Thank you God for guiding us through another day. For the most part the weather has been good. Although it was cooler this morning at 55 degrees. I guess by Florida standards that is almost too cold.

My garbage bag for protection while cutting tile or maybe I am just a bag man.

Nikki wasn’t able to help as she had a full day at work. Cheri was busy painting the doors and windows with the trim paint, think that was the last coat of paint on them. I worked on getting the dining room wet sanded and was done with that around noon. So Cheri put on the primer coat of paint and I helped her with the cutting in around the ceiling so she wouldn’t have to climb the ladder. Then I worked on getting TV cable fished up through the wall which went better than I expected it to. Then I worked on the wet sanding in the living room. Cheri finished with the painting at 4:00 pm and headed for the shower. I didn’t get done until near 5:00 pm and was ready for my shower. Nikki came home while I was in the shower so when I came down she was busy fixing supper for us. She fixed baked pork chops, fresh green beans, and potatoes with onions. Later we had some popcorn while watching a couple of TV shows.

Just another day of working on Nikki’s house. Nikki helped Cheri paint doors and windows until it was time for her to go to work. Cheri got all the primer coat on and this afternoon started with the finish coat. I scraped around the windows and doors to get some of the buildup of old paint off. Then it was back to plastering. I got what should be the final coat on in the dining room and an additional coat on in the living room. I will have to do a little sanding in the dining room and it should be ready for paint. I was done at 3:00 pm. and Cheri didn’t get done until 4:00 pm. After my shower I made a trip to Menard’s for materials to run the cable TV to the new TV location. When I was doing the work on the wall for the TV I didn’t run anything for the cable TV because Nikki was streaming and didn’t think I needed the cable. That was an assumption and it was wrong as she is going to have the DVR there. So long story short I will have to fish the wall and add a cut in box for the cable TV. Cheri and I had pizza for supper as Nikki was going to be late and didn’t get home until after 7:00 pm. Darren called this evening and got to visit with him and talk to Wyatt. Nikki took the phone and did a video to show him what all we were doing in the house. Thank you God for blessed day.

After a day off it was back to work on Nikki’s house. Peter came to help us today. He put the third coat of plaster on in the dining room and a second coat on in the living room. I helped Nikki get things set up outside so she and Cheri could paint some of the trim we will be installing later. Cheri also painted the Kitchen entry door and behind the kitchen stove. I worked on getting things set up so I could start the kitchen backsplash. Out of the first ten tiles they all had to be cut except for two of them which makes things go really slow. Nikki was able to help paint until noon. It was near 5:00 pm when Cheri got done painting for the day. It was around 5:30 pm when I quit and then had to put everything away from working outside with painting and cutting the tiles. Cheri and I both got our showers done before Nikki got home from work. We had leftovers for supper. Only watched a couple of shows on TV, just too tired to stay awake. Thank you God for working with us and giving us a productive day.

Ready to start tiling.

A few pieces of tile are installed

We had rain this morning but later turned cloudy with a stiff breeze. We took separate vehicles to church as Nikki had meetings after church and more this afternoon and evening. After church we went Menard’s for a couple thing I needed for the house project. After filling the truck with gas we met John and Linda at 11:30 am for lunch. They are longtime friends we had when we lived in Brandon. We had a good lunch and a good visit as it has be several years since we were last together. Out lunch and visit lasted until 2:00 pm. It was a good time catching up. On the way back to Nikki’s we stopped at Fleet Farm which is a store a lot like Tractor Supply or Rural King. It used to be my favorite store when we lived in Wisconsin. We got back to Nikki’s around 3:00 pm. I decided to put a second coat of plaster on the corners of the dining room as I couldn’t do both sides of the corners at the same time. Then we settled in and watched a Hallmark movie. We had my leftover lunch for supper. Nikki got home around 7:30 pm. Thank you God for time spent with you and good friends.

Just another day of work on Nikki’s house. Cheri and Nikki worked on cleaning up the existing crown molding. They got the primer coat on and one finish coat. Then they made a trip to Menard's to return some things we didn’t need and to pick me up another pail of plaster. I spent the day putting on a second coat of plaster in the dining room and did the tapping in the living room while waiting for Cheri and Nikki to bring the new pail of plaster. By the time they got back it was already 4:30 pm. They decided to put the finial finishing coat of paint of the crown molding. So worked on putting the first coat of plaster on the living room walls. It was 6:45 pm when I finally got done. Nikki did a couple loads of laundry while getting supper for us. I headed to the shower to get cleaned up. It was near 8:00 pm before we could sit down and have supper. The NSACAR race was on this evening and I stayed up to watch it. Cheri and Nikki went to bed before it was over. Thank you God a bless day of working with us.

Nikki and Cheri got the finish coat of paint on the living room ceiling. Cheri had to finish it because Nikki had to get ready and leave for work. Cheri also finished the trim paint in the kitchen. I think it is done except for the back splash which I need to install. I worked in the dining room today. I got all the seams taped and the first coat of plaster on. It was 3:00 pm when I got done with the plaster. I was going to do more but after a break I just couldn’t get my body going to do anymore. Nikki fixed us left overs for supper. After we got cleaned up we made a trip to Wal-Mart to get a few things we needed. We were going to make a stop at Fleet Farm but was too tired and needed to be home to rest. We had some ice cream while watching a couple of shows before calling it a night. Thank you God for helping us through another day.

The seam tape and corner moldings are on.

Just another day working for Nikki on her house. Cheri painted in the kitchen today and I think all that is left is the trim work and the painting in there will be done. I continued working on the sheetrock. I had many small areas that took a lot of time plus I added some more support in the wall I built as Nikki wants to hang her TV on it. Also added an electrical box that will be behind the TV. It took me until 4:30 pm to get these things done. I thought I would have gotten more done today. Nikki got home around 4:30 pm. I headed for the shower which always makes me feel better. Nikki brought home some fresh cheese curds. It has been several years since we have had them and told Nikki that it was one of the things I wanted while we were here. It is one of the things I miss about Wisconsin. Nikki fixed us leftovers for supper along with a dish of ice cream while watching the Green Bay Packer game. At times they looked good but for the most part they have a lot to get done before the season starts. We have had very nice weather while we are here but working inside all day we haven’t been able to enjoy it. Thank you God for guiding us through another day.

It was another early day getting back to the house project. I started at 7:00 am installing sheetrock. Peter Tebeest a friend came to help me today. We worked together for 30 plus years before I retired. He was a big help and never would have gotten most of the sheetrock put up today. We worked until 5:30 pm. We run out of sheetrock and will have to get two more sheets for the project. Cheri Painted trim in the kitchen today and was going to paint the walls but when she opened the paint it was the wrong color. Nikki got home around 4:30 pm. Cheri and Nikki was busy fixing supper while I took a much needed shower. After supper we headed to Menard’s to get the right paint and the two additional sheets of sheetrock. By the time we were done and ready to rest it was already 8:45 pm. I still needed to have a bowl of ice cream before calling it a night. Thank you God for productive day and all the help from Peter.

Installing sheetrock

Cheri put in another bad night and mine wasn’t all that good so we were up extra early this morning. I made a trip to the dump and cleaned out the truck bed as we were going to Oshkosh to pick up a few things at Lowe’s that we can’t get at Menards. I got things ready to start installing sheetrock and did get one piece up before it was time to head to Oshkosh. After our stop at Lowe’s we met friends Larry and Emmy at Olive Garden at 1:00 pm for a late lunch and visit to catch up on what they have been doing. I guess you could say it was a good visit because we were there for three hours. When we got home I installed another sheet of sheetrock. After Nikki got home we made a trip to Menards so Cheri and Nikki could exchange some paint they bought. From there we went downtown for church concert and free food. It was put on by Nikki’s church along with some other churches in town. It was after 8:00 pm when we got home. Thank you God for a blessed day to spend with friends and Christian music.

Just another work day which starts at 6:00 am with coffee and breakfast. The first thing I did this morning was to return the jack I had rented for the beam support repair. Then a quick stop at Menard’s for an additional electrical outlet I needed to finish the electrical in the new wall. The rest of the day was spent on the stairway wall has I had to remove the step that is before the door that goes upstairs and rework it for the reinstall. At one time it was an open stairway without the door. Whoever did the install didn’t do it right and now I am having a time correcting it. I had to build out the wall to make room for the electrical switches and so the wall would be the same on both sides of existing door. Cheri put on another coat of paint on the kitchen ceiling so all the ceiling are now painted. Cheri also followed behind me cleaning up the mess I made which is a big job as I am pretty messy. I quit at 4:30 pm and Cheri still had some clean up to do and I headed for the shower. Nikki didn’t get home until after 6:00 pm. Cheri and Nikki fixed us pulled pork sandwiched for supper. It was a short evening of TV as we were all tired from the day’s work. Thank you God for a blessed day.

We went to church with Nikki this morning. The message was good but more for parents raising children. After church we came back to Nikki’s to drop me off as Cheri and Nikki went to Oshkosh shopping. I rested and waited for the NASCR race to start and then found out that Nikki doesn’t get the NBCSN channel. So I changed clothes and worked on the beam wall and got that done this afternoon. Nikki and Cheri came in just as I was finishing up. They bought a Papa Murphy’s pizza to have for supper. So while that was baking I ran the wire for an outlet in the new wall. I need an additional out let box for the other side of the new wall. I will pick one up tomorrow when I return the jack to the Rent-A-Center. Nikki put some additional seasoning on the pizza which made it better than the one we had last Sunday. We watched movie which wasn’t very good just enough to keep us watching. Thank you God for of your blessing for us.

It was back to work on the beam project. We picked up an eight foot four by four to use in jacking the house up which did work. I still couldn’t get where I wanted it but is a whole lot better than before. I had to put a new post in the basement to support the floor above and then the new post to support the beam and the floor upstairs. I also made a trip to Menards to pick up the heating and air conditioning duct that had to go in along the beam support. It was an all day job and I didn’t get done until 6:15 pm. Cheri worked on painting the final coat of paint on the living room and kitchen ceilings. Nikki had to work at church this morning and part of the afternoon. She stopped by Menard’s on her way home for more ceiling paint. Nikki fixed us baked chicken, potatoes, and corn for supper. It was after 7:30 pm when we finally settled in for an evening of TV. Thank you God for helping us through another day.

Cheri put in a bad night and not feeling very good today. So she is resting and gaining strength to move forward tomorrow. The building inspector came around 11:00 am and checked the insulation and everything was good and able to start the sheetrock installation. I went and picked up jack I need to raise the sagging beam. I think I can get it jacked back in place and won’t have to replace it. I did some jacking from the basement and then from the first floor. Things finally were coming together when the pipe I was using for jacking buckled. That put an end to my work day. It was 4:30 pm when that happened. Nikki came home around 5:30 pm and make pancakes for supper. After my shower and getting cleaned up Nikki and I went to Menard’s to order the sheetrock and trim to be delivered Monday. I just didn’t have it in me to load everything in our truck and then unload it here at Nikki’s. Nikki also got the paint for the kitchen, dining room, and living room. It was past 8:30 pm when we got home. Thank you God for guiding us through another day.

The house project continues. Cheri and Nikki did most of the installing of the insulation this morning. I continued working on the house wiring and got most of it done. I still have one set of switches that need to be rewired but has to wait until I get the wall built out. Nikki left for work around 12:30 pm. Cheri helped me with the rest of the insulation and then to put up the plastic moisture barrier. Nikki called and the building inspector will be here tomorrow morning to inspect before we can install the sheetrock. We quit work at 4:00 pm so we could get ready to go out for dinner with Greg and Jeanene Peterson who are longtime friends we met through the GWRRA. They picked us up at 5:00 pm and after dinner we drove over to Fond du Lac Park which is on the south end of Lake Winnebago. It was a nice place to visit and watch the sail boats. Greg and I climbed to the top of the light house which is 60 feet high. It gave us a great view of the lake. It was around 8:30 pm when we said our goodbyes. Sure was good to see them. When we got in the house Nikki was watching the Green Bay Packers playing their first preseason game. So you can guess what I did for the rest of the evening Nikki and Cheri headed for bed about half time. Of course I stayed up to the end.

It was another busy day on the house project. Cheri finished getting the primer paint done in the kitchen and also got living room ceiling primed. I continued working on the electrical and run into more problems with the electrical. I found some of the wiring to be bridle with the insulation breaking off and needed to be replace and also no ground. I also had to replace the nob and tube wiring. I had to make a trip to Menard’s for some additional wiring materials. It was 5:30 pm when I quit for the day. Nikki got home around 4:30 pm. She went right work fixing us chicken Alfredo for our supper. We had a rain storm come through this evening and around 8:30 pm the tornado sirens went off so we headed for the basement. At 9:15 pm the tornado warning was over and just a severe thunder storm warning. After that excitement it was time to call it a night. Thank God for blessed day and keeping us safe.

It is getting harder for Cheri and I to get around in the morning as we are about wore out from the remodel. Cheri worked in the kitchen putting on a coat of primer so it will be ready for a finish coat of paint. I was an electrician today installing some additional electrical outlets and have to do some rewiring. Also fished wire into the living room ceiling for a light and fan. With the additional rewiring I wasn’t able to get it all done today. It was 5:00 pm when Cheri and I quit for the day. Nikki texted Cheri and told her that she was going to be late getting home and to go ahead and eat supper. She didn’t get home until near 7:00 pm. After she eat we made a trip to Menard’s for some additional electrical materials and lumber to rebuild the sagging beam. It was near 9:00 pm when we got back home. Cheri and I decided to call it an night. Nikki was going to do a load of laundry us and her. Thank you God for all the help getting us through the day.

It was another busy day removing plaster and lath from the living room. I also found a broken beam that has caused the celling to sag some. So I will be replacing it along with some jacking of the wall from the basement. Just some more things that I didn’t plan on doing. We have all the plaster removed so we took a truck load to the recycle center. The plater weighed over 2200 pounds which made a heavy load on the truck. I think that 90 percent of the dirty work is done. We still have some clean up to do. It was 4:30 pm when we finally quit for the day. After we all had our showers and cleaned up Nikki fixed us spaghetti and garlic toast for supper. We did watch a little TV before calling it a night. Thank you God for guiding us through another day.

We went to church with Nikki at 9:00 am. It was a good message from Colossians 1:15-20. After church we went to Menard’s to pick up some electrical supplies and things we needed for our projects. We also checked out all the trim and installation. We decided to use all new trim instead of trying to get the old cleaned up and painted. While we were in Menard’s we got a call from Dawn who is a friend of Grandma’s and told us that she was at the ER with Grandma. She woke up with a nose bleed and couldn’t get to stop and called Dawn to come and help her. There were several text messages back and forth. As they needed to know what she was allergic to and what antibiotics she can take. Later in the day we was told that she could go home and be by herself. From Menard’s we headed to Oshkosh to check out kitchen backsplash tiles. Nikki found some she liked so we bought them along with a ceiling fan for her living room. On the way home we stopped and got a Papa Murphy’s pizza to have for supper. It was after 4:00 pm when we got home. Cheri and Nikki were checking out all the magazines for redecorating ideas. I watched the rest of the NASCAR race that was on. Cheri tried several times to call Grandma as we were worried about her. She finally called Dawn to get and up date. So Dawn call Sue the lady that lives behind Grandma a she went over and told Grandma she needed to call us. Long story short she seems to be ok. After our pizza we settled in and watched a movie before calling it a night. Thank you God for a bless day with you and helping Grandma.

It was back to work on the house project around 7:30 am. Cheri and Nikki worked on painting the dining room ceiling. I worked on removing all the trim and wood work from the living room. After Cheri and Nikki got the second coat of paint on Nikki helped removing plaster in the living room. Cheri painted wood work and then helped clean up plaster that was removed. We quit at 4:00 pm as we ran out of bags to put the plaster in and we all had run out of energy to continue. After we showered and got cleaned up Nikki fixed us BQ pork on toast with veggies and water melon. The rest of the evening was spent in the front of the TV napping. Thank you God for your blessing and help for us today.

We were all tired this morning from yesterday’s work. But we needed to push forward to keep on track for the project. We started around 7:30 am and quit around 4:30 pm. So it was another long day of work. We thought we were tired this morning but tonight we are having a hard time moving. Nikki having to go to work isn’t able to help that much. Although she did work on the molding we removed by cutting off the old nails and getting it ready for paint. I can say the demo work in the dining room is done. We will start on the living room next. Nikki fixed supper for us and then we sat down watched a little TV before calling it a night. Thank you God for guiding us through another day.
Dining room demo is done.

We found the chimney and heat duct that goes upstairs.
